The Munich-based chemical company WACKER has launched an innovative hydrophilic fabric softener for factory textile finishing, called WETSOFT NE 750.

It is said that this new product for high-quality textiles can increase the softness of textiles while retaining the ability to absorb water. According to the manufacturer, this is particularly important for towels and materials that need to remain absorbent after finishing.

Silicone oil formulations are sold as anhydrous concentrates that need to be diluted with water to produce a ready-to-use emulsion. The main component of WETSOFT NE 750 is a block copolymer based on amino functional silicone and polyethylene glycol.

The silicone oil part is arranged in the form of a freely moving ring on the outside of the fabric, reducing the friction between the fibers. It is said that this provides excellent softness to the fabric, which can be maintained even after washing. On the other hand, the polyethylene glycol segment is designed to ensure that the normally waterproof silicone finish remains water-permeable.

The company reports that the combination of softness and water absorption is essential for high-quality textiles. According to the test conducted by the manufacturer, the material treated with WETSOFT NE 750 has a pleasant, soft and full feel while maintaining water absorption. Therefore, they will quickly absorb moisture from the skin and hair.

This is because the emulsion is designed to penetrate into the core of the fabric, even if the fabric contains long pile fibers.

Compared with traditional fabric softeners, the special molecular structure of WETSOFT NE 750 helps to absorb water while significantly improving water absorption. From the perspective of a textile manufacturer, it is important that subsequent textile corrections, such as re-dyeing of materials, can be easily carried out after the textile has been processed by the product.

According to the company, the new product provides significant advantages for textile auxiliaries formulators. Hydrophilic fabric softeners are sold as high solids anhydrous concentrates. The product is self-emulsifying and can be diluted with water at a ratio of 1:1 to 1:5 to form a stable emulsion, making the product easy to formulate.

Users can get a stable emulsion that combines the advantages of typical products of microemulsion and macroemulsion. Hydrophilic fabric softeners can be applied to towels, woven fabrics or knitted fabrics through venting or filling processes. Both cotton and polyester-containing blended fabrics can be finished with this product.
